When there is awareness of the automatic thoughts behind behavior, they can be challenged and confronted, a foundational principle of the Cognitive-Behavioral approach to treatment.
I also utilize a child-centered approach to play therapy when working with younger children and sandtray therapy when working with individuals and families. I understand how valuable the group experience can be in providing both support and healthy confrontation of maladaptive behaviors.
Working with children and adolescents has always been important to me as I began working toward my Registered Play Therapy (RPT) certification in graduate school. I am also a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with over five years experience working with youth in residential treatment, and their biological, foster, and adoptive families. Additionally, I am a Licensed Sex Offender Treatment Provider (LSOTP) in the state of Texas.
I graduated from Southwest Texas State University with an undergraduate degree in Psychology. I obtained a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling with an emphasis on Community Counseling from Texas State University-San Marcos.
