Recognizing that something is not working and preparing to make changes can feel overwhelming!
Lack of awareness is why we beat ourselves up and damage our self-esteem when we do not “measure up”, “fit in,” or “try harder.” We know what it feels like to think these thoughts, but never provide the time, energy, and patience to find the very source of the thoughts. Seeking counseling at these times allows for other perspectives and support during difficult situations. To finally acknowledge that a change must occur is very liberating!
I am passionate about my work and believe in empowering individuals and families by providing a nurturing environment to work toward making positive change. I understand the connection between how one’s thinking affects behavior and the importance of recognizing where positive change can occur.
I hope I can be of assistance to you throughout your journey of self-awareness and growth!
Katherine E. Harris, LPC, RPT
When there is awareness of the automatic thoughts behind behavior, they can be challenged and confronted, a foundational principle of the Cognitive-Behavioral approach to treatment.
I also utilize a child-centered approach to play therapy when working with younger children and sandtray therapy when working with individuals and families. I understand how valuable the group experience can be in providing both support and healthy confrontation of maladaptive behaviors.
Working with children and adolescents has always been important to me as I began working toward my Registered Play Therapy (RPT) certification in graduate school. I am also a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with over five years experience working with youth in residential treatment, and their biological, foster, and adoptive families. Additionally, I have been a Licensed Sex Offender Treatment Provider (LSOTP) in the state of Texas.
I graduated from Southwest Texas State University with an undergraduate degree in Psychology. I obtained a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling with an emphasis on Community Counseling from Texas State University-San Marcos.
